Passport to Cinque Terre

Passport to Cinque Terre

When I was 19 years old I decided I wasn't ready to go to university, and that I was being called to travel around the world for 6 months. Long story short, I sold everything I owned, had a semi plan, and hopped on a plane with my good friend Suzanne, with one mission, to meet people.

We ended up traveling to 8 countries and like 40+ something cities, but out of all of that travel Cinque Terre was one of the most memorable.

Fast forward 5 years, I ended up going to university and getting a 2 year degree, and dropping out when I no longer was receiving state grants. But I was OK with that because I was 2 years deep into YIREH, and knew that this was my passion and if I worked hard enough I could succeed. In July of 2016 I got married to the love of my life, Davin, (whom I actually met on that 6 month around the world trip on our stop in Indonesia). We were planning a two month honeymoon, to again 8 countries, and I knew I had to take him here.

Cinque Terre's greatness cannot be described. It's name literally means 5 cities, because it consist of 5 cities situated on Italy's Northern coastline. Each city having it's own personality and character. You can choose either to hike between the five cities, or take the train between them, whatever you fancy. But I promise you, this will be one of the best places you visit in Italy. I actually feel bad typing that, and am somewhat pulling towards deleting this entire post because this area is that unique and beautiful it almost shouldn't be talked about on the internet.

When I went in 2011 I went during the month of September and hiked between all 5 cities. It was somewhat crowded but still felt small. When I went again in 2016 I went during the month of October and it was almost a ghost town. There were very few people on the trails and several were closed, so we ended up taking the train between them a lot, but it was still as beautiful and quaint as I had remembered.

Below are photos from our honeymoon in 2016. :) Enjoy.

xo,
Emily
