Ethical Holiday Gift Guide

Now that December is here, I’ve realized I need to get serious about my holiday shopping list. If you’re already done - bravo! I hope to be you next year. But if you’re saving things to the last minute, we at YIREH have your back!
We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite ethical brands in this holiday gift guide for you. All of these brands are women-owned (well, almost! All except Coconut Bowls!) and create consciously, with a little something for everyone. It really doesn’t get better than this!

Plant Sax

Plant Sax are a beautiful alternative to conventional plant pots. Handcrafted from vintage fabrics and deconstructed remnants, they bring a burst of color and pattern to your home. Plant Sax are the perfect gift for the plant lover in your life - adding stylish details while simultaneously reducing fabric waste. This is what we call a win-win.

Fade into the Abstract

Perfect for the modern boho woman in your life, Fade into the Abstract handmade jewelry adds a bold statement to every outfit. The collections are inspired by and have evolved with the artist’s surroundings - from sea-cliffs and majestic mountains to cityscapes. Each piece is exquisitely crafted in a Seattle outdoor studio oasis.

Margaret Rice

Margaret Rice’s art is lush, feminine, and powerful - which just happens to align with our personal affirmations. A print from the O’ahu born artist’s studio is the perfect gift to celebrate a fellow goddess.

Pigeon Toe Ceramics

Portland-based Pigeon Toe Ceramics is female+sibling owned. All items are handmade with the intention to bring beauty to every day objects - encouraging us to notice the inherent beauty in the things that populate our daily lives. The wine-lover in your life needs these elegant wine tumblers and you need invite yourself over with a bottle of wine!

San Junipero Studio

San Junipero is an LA textile studio crafting beautiful, luxurious home items from vintage materials. The company’s ethos does not believe in temporary products and instead creates durable, high quality, and one-of-a-kind pieces. You won’t find a more perfect shop for the homebody who surrounds themselves with impeccable, beautiful touches.

We had to include YIREH on this list! We hope we’re your go-to for socially conscious and ethically made clothing and home goods. All of our garments are easy to wear and easy to pack, made with the modern jet-setting woman in mind. Not sure what size or style to gift? We now have gift cards!

Avela is a Hawai’i-based socially conscious and ethical brand founded by two travel-loving best friends. They aspire to bring global products to women just like them while fairly supporting artists and ensuring all aspects of their business are sustainable. Avela has the perfect score for the wanderlusting gal who loves one-of-a-kind finds.

Oshan Essentials

Oshan Essentials is a luxury skin care line from the islands of Hawai'i, handcrafted in small batches using only pure, organic, wildcrafted, ethically sourced ingredients of the highest quality. Oshan Essentials is all about reconnecting with ourselves and giving our bodies mindful attention. Perfect for the beach babe whose skin needs a little TLC after all the salt and sun.

Coconut Bowls

Coconut Bowls saves as many of the billions of discarded coconut shells they can by polishing them into the loveliest, earthy bowls that honestly make everything look more delicious. The perfect gift for your foodie who is always concocting the most Insta-worthy meals.

The Little Market

The Little Market is a nonprofit online fair trade shop with every purchase generating meaningful income and improving the quality of life in the artisans’ communities. Check out their market bags (supporting basket weavers in Ghana) for that farmer’s market friend who loves bouquets of fresh kale and hitting up all the local pop-up shops.

Freshly painted nails is a wonderful form of self-care, so we love that Sundays has made a polish that won’t risk your health (or others') in the process. The perfect gift for the woman who needs a little pampering. The best part? They celebrate individuality and beauty while minimizing harm - It is vegan, nontoxic, cruelty-free and cute to boot.

And that's our list!

So whatever and whoever you are celebrating this season, I hope you do it with love. It is so easy to get caught up in the sales and the desire for more stuff. But at the end of the day, material goods really aren’t everything.

My hope is that we can all take this time of year as a fantastic opportunity to make thoughtful purchases that have the potential to change lives. From women running small businesses, to artisans in impoverished communities, you have the power to use your dollar to make an impact. And give your loved ones incredible gifts created with a lot of care.

Happy shopping!
